Neighboring Eyes tells the dramatic story of the Reynolds, a family in earnest pursuit of the American dream of prosperity and success by way of hard work and a false floor of easy credit and questionable behavior. Set at the height of the baby-boom, Neighboring Eyes documents the clash between lofty dreams and the harsh realities of debt, job woes, poor parenting, extra-marital affairs, and class warfare.

John Reynolds, father of four, is the novel’s whipping boy for failed expectations and the culprit of cheap, adult misconduct. His child-weary, Italian-blooded wife, Lucia, seeks emotional and carnal comfort in an open, steamy affair with another man. Burdened by debt and marital problems, John and Lucia collapse under the added weight of public scrutiny and scorn when their fifteen-year-old son, Bill, is accused of molesting a young girl.

Familial problems escalate, compounded by financial anxiety, unacceptable adult behavior, neglect, and emotional torment. Psychological pressures split relationships between married couples, heads of households, parents and children, friends and neighbors. A community divides in an attempt to come together when neighbors secretly engage in a plan to influence standards of conformance.
