Beneath the Milk White is an exotic fantasy of romance, wonderment, and treachery woven from the moment two single adults in their twenties meet at a classy hotel spa located near the French Quarter of New Orleans, where an amorous young Englishman advances to ask an attractive female sunbather an intriguing question about plant consciousness, and his impromptu pick up line goes awry when he reaches for a pretty bougainvillea flower from a nearby shrub and accidently tears his finger on a long, sharp thorn.

The young woman, a med-student taking a day off from a grueling academic schedule, attempts to administer poolside first aid, but as the injury worsens, offers to escort the injured man to the hospital. The romance begins in the taxi’s backseat where with his head cradled in her lap, Julie Ward instantly falls for Jonny Ruskin’s good looks, his British mannerisms, and his need for comfort.

Allergic-like reactions, tremors, fever, and respiratory system failures occur from the outset of the wound and threaten Jonny’s life. His finger is mended in the emergency room, but the diagnosis of his mysterious illness goes unsolved, leaving hospital officials no choice but to quarantine and examine him for a potentially contagious viral bug.

Restless by nature, unable to deal with confining hospital regulations, Jonny escapes from quarantine, but not from the parasite responsible for his desperate illness that now assumes broader control of his life and mind and sends him on a mission to re-engineer the genetic code of the human race.
